We read the story IT LOOKED LIKE SPILT MILK. So we went outside and looked at the clouds to see what we could find. The students thought that it would be fun to see what other shapes we could see while we were outside. I love these kids and their imaginations!
The Pre-K, Kindergarten, First and Second grades all got to walk to the Okmulgee Fire Station for Fire Safety Week. Some of their favorite things to see were the jaws of life, the inside of the fire trucks, hearing the sirens, and seeing the "water canon."
Every Friday we have Mrs. Weston's class come and read to us. They help us read books and take reading counts tests. At first some of the students were a little shy when the big kids came but now they all look forward to the time their reading buddies come.
Second Mystery Reader
Mrs. Trevino came as our second Mystery reader and the kids absolutely loved it! She read an interactive version of The Three Little Pigs, and she even had masks for the kids to take turns wearing. Thank you!
Okmulgee County Fair Field Trip
We had so much fun on our first field trip of the year. Afterwords we were able to go back to the school and practice our skills of labeling. We drew and labeled what we saw at the fair.
We had so much fun creating our dot projects. Thank you for all of the fun things you provided for your kids to create with. I love how they all turned out so different but each project describes each kids personality.
On Tuesday my wonderful Grandma came to visit our class and helped the students write in their journals. I'm ashamed to say that I only took a few pictures and they aren't very good. The kids loved it though and they keep asking when will Grandma come again? I love that these kiddos love my grandma too! I hope to get Grandma back soon.
First Mystery Reader
Thank you Mr. Trimm for surprising our class today. They absolutely loved trying to guess who it could be that was coming to visit our class. All about the Dragons was also a hit, you captivated them for those few moments. I loved how they all wanted to move closer to see the pictures and that they all wanted to give you a high five before you left. Thank you!
This year I have been blest to have my class size double in size plus one. I went from 6 to 13. This year is going to be very different but I already love all my kiddos! Look at how beautiful and handsome my kids are!
We started doing theme study a little differently and I'm letting the kids ask questions and then we either look them up online, read it in a book, watch videos on it, and/or we do experiments.
Last week we learned about tugboats and how they work. We were able to watch a "How it Works Video" that the kids loved.
This week our question was, How do we get clean water? We started out drawing on the SMART board how we get water. The kids included a lake with pumps and pipes coming out of it and going to houses through ditches. The pipes and ditches wrapped all around the houses and connected each other. They even had pipes to connect to the sinks, toilets, showers, and the kitchen. I'm ashamed to say that I didn't take a picture.
To learn more we watched videos about how water gets to our tap and how drinking water is made. After seeing those videos we decided to make a water filter.
Today we made a homemade waterfilter. We went out to the alley and gathered water from the puddle. Then we came in and built a very simple filter out of a liter pop bottle, sponges, cotton balls, steal wool, and a coffee filter. Look at the pictures and see what a difference it made!
On January 29th the Pre-K through second grade classes attended the Superheroes of Knowledge concert by Stephen Fite. The kids enjoyed dancing to the the songs and as an added bonus we got a picture with Stephen Fite, the Superhero of Knowledge. He taught the kids the importance of learning and saying active. He had the kids do a superhero workout, practice adding doubles in math, the three states of matter found in water (Solid, liquid, and gas), syllables, letter sounds, our five senses, and the importance practicing our good manners by saying please and thank you.
100th Day of School!
We're 100 years old!
I have to say that I have the cutest kindergarteners! They are so much fun and full of life and energy. Parents thank you for all of your support and for helping your kids dress up twice this week. I'm still a kid right along with them because I loved dressing up two days this week! I hope you enjoy the pictures from our 100 day celebration.
We've been really working on our handwriting and writing skills lately. We went through the writing process. Some of the final drafts were handwritten and while others were typed. The students illustrated their own books and then we sat in the "teacher chair" and read our stories. It was wonderful to see and hear. I hope you enjoyed the stories at home.
We have also been going into Mrs. Wann's class to do centers on Friday. Mrs. Wann made the comment that it has really helped the Pre-K students to try new and hard things. I love the conversations I hear during centers. They are so creative and they have to work together. I've really seen them learning problem solving skills and talking things out. We have to step in at times but they are amazing kiddos!
I love taking photographs and I hope that you enjoy them as much as I do. I love catching the kids working hard, playing well with others, creating, and just being kids.
